Pieternel, born in 1969, is a versatile artist whose artistic career is characterized by remarkable development and transformation. As a child, she was already busy depicting the anatomy of animals in her sketches. Horses in particular were portrayed in detail and character and now form “The Golden Thread” in her paintings.
Pieternel's path to art was predetermined and developed through various phases that provided her with a broad base of knowledge, experience, and creative inspiration.
After initially studying commercial emotional economics, Pieternel immersed herself in interior design. This academic training gave her a deep understanding of aesthetics, interior design, and decorative elements. However, rather than focusing solely on theory, she discovered her passion for the practical implementation of artistic ideas.
As an entrepreneur, she devoted herself to the decorative arts, creating murals and restorations, a field in which she could express her creative energy and be financially successful at the same time. Despite these professional successes, Pieternel felt the urge to delve even further into her true passion: visual animal art. Since 2005, she has been working as a professional artist, self-taught and driven by a deep connection with horses and the animal kingdom. Her motivation stems from the infinite diversity and beauty of animals, which she considers inexhaustible—each animal offers a new challenge and a new source of inspiration.
The horse, which appears on the canvas time and again like a golden thread, conveys the dynamism, power, and emotion of life. They appear like dreams, in the sun, on the canvas, deeply connected to her Spanish heart.
Pieternel's painting is characterized by her unique technique: she uses a palette knife to create her works. This method gives her paintings a special texture and dynamism that brings the animals on the canvas to life. By skillfully applying and modeling the paint, she creates a three-dimensional effect that gives the impression that the animals are emerging from the canvas. Her works combine elements of expressionism and realism. While the realistic representation of the animals emphasizes their anatomical precision and attention to detail, the expressionist style gives her works emotional depth and lively expressiveness.
Over time, Pieternel expanded her artistic practice to include sculpture, a discipline that further deepened her fascination with three-dimensional forms and structures. Sculpture allowed her to explore and realize her ideas about animal forms, not only on a two-dimensional canvas, but also in space. This expansion of her repertoire demonstrates her ongoing development as an artist and her willingness to experiment with new techniques and materials.
Pieternel's works are more than just depictions of animals—they invite the viewer to grasp the essence and character of each creature. Her art is a tribute to the beauty and uniqueness of the animal kingdom, but also a call to protect and preserve nature and its creatures. With her powerful and expressive works, she bridges the gap between the natural world and human perception, inviting us to rediscover the hidden magic of the animal kingdom.
Her artistic journey is therefore a striking example of how different stages of life and disciplines can come together to form a unique artistic voice. Pieternel is not only a master at depicting animals, but also a visionary who subtly and captivatingly reflects the relationship between humans and nature through her art.
